SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (July 25, 2022) – The Southwest Premier League (SWPL) announces South San Francisco AC as its newest member.

One of the longest-standing men’s amateur clubs in the Bay Area, South San Francisco AC will join Pacific Premier for the 2022/2023 season.

“It was time for our club to move on to a new adventure,” Team President Mike Pizzo said. “The SWPL provides us with many opportunities to pursue this adventure and at the same time bring us to a higher competitive level. We look forward to a great relationship with the SWPL and our fellow clubs.”

Created in 1954 by Alvaro Bettucchi, South San Francisco AC played in the Peninsula Soccer League for 65 years. The club finally reached the league’s top tier in 2012, and won its first championship this year.

Bettucchi coached the club until his retirement in 1983. Pizzo stepped into the technical area and led the team until 2018. Currently, Gareth Lea serves as coach and is assisted by Martin Wright, Djim Andemel and Greg Hui.
